When can I enroll or make changes?
It’s important to know when you’re able to enroll or make changes to your benefits.Â
Newly Benefits Eligible
 You can enroll in benefits as a new hire, or if you are newly benefits eligible! New hire coverage begins on the Date of Hire as long as you enroll within 30 days of becoming eligible.Â
Annual Open Enrollment
You will have the opportunity annually during Open Enrollment to enroll in benefits, make changes, and/or add or remove dependents. The decisions you make during Open Enrollment will stay in effect for the entire plan year, January 1 through December 31, unless you experience a qualifying event.
Qualifying Life Event
Outside of Open Enrollment, you may be able to enroll or make changes to your benefit elections if you have a big change in your life, including:Â
- Change in legal marital status
- Change in number of dependents or dependent eligibility status
- Change in employment status that affects eligibility for you, your spouse, or dependent child(ren)
- Change in residence that affects access to network providers
- Change in your health coverage or your spouse’s coverage due to your spouse’s employment
- Change in an individual’s eligibility for Medicare or Medicaid
- Court order requiring coverage for your child
- “Special enrollment event” under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), including a new dependent by marriage, birth or adoption, or loss of coverage under another health insurance plan
- Event allowed under the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) Reauthorization Act (you have 60 days to request enrollment due to events allowed under CHIP).
You must submit your change within 30 Days of the event!Â
Remember – if you miss the enrollment deadline, you’ll need to wait until the next open enrollment, or for a qualifying life event. You won’t be able to make changes to your benefits outside of the scenarios above, so plan accordingly to make sure you have all the coverage you need each plan year!
